I served as a cook on the USCGC Mackinac (WHEC-371). We were out on ocean station duty doing weather patrols and search and rescue.

One of the main things I remember was when we had to rescue an injured man off an oil tanker while we were on station. We were actually headed east toward Europe at the time, but we took the man on board and brought him back to New York for medical treatment.

I also served on the USCGC Navesink (WYTL-88), which was a tug based out of Staten Island, New York.
