Sergeant Louis Joseph Amadio / United States Army

Entering the Army on April 9, 1945, Amadio proceeded to Camp Croft, South Carolina, for basic training. In October, he was sent to the staging area at Camp Pickett, Virginia, in preparation for overseas duty. Arriving in France at Le Havre in November, he was assigned to the 4th Armored Division as a mechanic in Landshut, Germany. His unit was engaged in transporting vehicles from Le Havre to Landshut. In March 1946, Sergeant Amadio was transferred to the 53rd Constabulary Squadron, again as a mechanic. In July, he returned to the United States and was discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on July 24, 1946. Before entering the Army, Amadio was employed at the French and Heald Furniture Company. He married Miriam Small of Amherst on July 31, 1938. Born in Milford on March 26, 1916, he was raised there. His parents are Anthony and Anna (D’Andrea) Amadio.
