Honoring Army PFC George Roehl Jr.: A Life of Courage and Love

At just 21 years old, Army Private First Class George Roehl Jr. of Manchester, New Hampshire, made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country. On April 11, 2006, during operations in Taji, Iraq, George was killed when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device and came under small arms fire.

A member of the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, George served with dedication, honor, and quiet bravery. He was a soldier, but first and foremost, he was a beloved son, brother, and grandson. Those closest to him remember his warmth, sense of humor, and deep love for his family—qualities that never wavered even in the face of war.

His family, which spans across New Hampshire, continues to honor his memory and the life he lived with such heart. George now rests at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, in Section 4, Row B, Site 29—a place of honor for a young man who gave everything.

George Roehl Jr.’s life was brief, but full of meaning. His courage, his sacrifice, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him—and all who remember him.
