MM2/c George Frank Ayers / United States Navy

George Frank Ayers, MM 2/c was employed at the Hillsborough Mills when he enlisted in the Navy, George F. Ayers was sworn in at Boston, Massachusetts, November 20, 1942, and was sent to Great Lakes Training Station, Illinois, for boot training and Machinist school. In June 1943, he came East and reported for duty at the Section Base Machine Shop at Newport, Rhode Island. Later that year he went to Pier 92 in New York for an assignment and was sent to Miami, Florida, in February, 1944. In April, 1944, Ayers went aboard a repair ship, the USS ATR-29, operating in the Atlantic. After a year of duty, he was discharged, November 1, 1945, at Miami. Although not a native of Milford, Ayers came here in 1936, after attending elementary schools at South Wardsboro, Vermont, Dedham and Middleboro, Massachusetts. He was born February 1, 1922, at Dedham, the son of George and Helen (Wright) Ayers of Milford. He married Anne Courage of Milford on December 3, 1943
