Radioman 3rd Class Fred Oscar Adams / United States Coast Guard

Fred Oscar Adams, RdM 3 /c — A native son of Milford, Fred Adams attended local schools and was employed at the New England Tape Company in Hudson, Massachusetts, when he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He was sworn in at Boston, October 16, 1942, and began active-duty December 28 at Manhattan Beach, New York. In October, 1943, he went to Wabasso Beach, Florida, where he had charge of 36 horses used by the Coast Guard in patrolling the beach.

Later he was stationed at Tampa, Florida, and then went to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to radar school, in June, 1944. He was transferred to Little Creek, Virginia, then New Orleans, Louisiana, and later, Portsmouth, Virginia.

In November he boarded the USS Bedford and went to Bermuda, then Africa, returning home in June, 1945. After another trip to Africa, he went to Pearl Harbor, then to Manila in the Philippines. While in the Pacific he visited some islands. He was discharged November 28, 1945, at Boston.
Fred is the son of M. Helen (Polk) and the late Ernest Adams. He was born in Milford, April 19, 1919. He married Marjorie Kathan of Hudson, Massachusetts, in January, 1944.
