SGM Douglas R. Mahoney was born in Concord, NH. He attended Concord High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, later continuing his military career with the New Hampshire National Guard and the U.S. Army. SGM Mahoney served 34 years in uniform, first in the US Marines and then in NH Army National Guard (NHARNG). His last assignment was in the NHARNG Recruiting & Retention Command. He retired in 1998 with the rank of Sergeant Major.

Doug also earned college degrees from Franklin Pierce College and UNH Manchester.

Doug was an avid golfer and proud New England sports fan. He was known in their Flagler Beach community as a kind and dependable neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand.

A legacy of SGM Mahoney is being one of the five founders of the NH Veterans Cemetery Association, Inc.(NHVCA) in September 2000. That non-profit organization is the steward of donations to provide support to the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. His leadership 25+ years ago helped create this ongoing organization that makes a positive difference for veterans and their families.
