I enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in November of 1962 and served four years in the regulars and then 20 years in the reserves. I served on Coast Guard Cutters, Air Stations, and ashore giving me a broad exposure to what the Coast Guard is all about. The Coast Guard is the smallest branch of the military with the NY City Police force being larger than the Coast Guard active duty personnel. This experience harbored many opportunities and enhanced my entrepreneurial spirit to go on to establish several very successful businesses.
The Coast Guard isn’t easy to get into but it’s well worth the try. I am a member of the 100 Nights of Remembrance which plays taps live every night at 7:00 pm from Memorial Day to September 11 and chaired the Coast Guard Monument Committee on the Memorial Walkway. When I served in the NH State Senate, Senator Jack Barnes and I sponsored the bill that established the State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Something I believe to be one of my primary accomplishments next to Enhanced 911. This cemetery is an accomplishment every veteran in New Hampshire can be proud of and without a doubt is one of the best-run veteran cemeteries in the Country. God Bless America and all of its veterans.
