Seaman 2nd Class Charles Richard Ansaldo / United States Navy

Enlisting in the Navy on April 21, 1945, Ansaldo went on active duty in June. After boot training at Sampson, New York, he went to Newport, Rhode Island, for pre-commission training. He was then assigned to the heavy cruiser LTSS Oregon City in February, 1946. The ship went on a shakedown cruise to Cuba and in June put in at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The ship then became the flagship of the 4th fleet with an admiral and his staff aboard. On July 28, he was released from ship duty and was discharged from the Navy.
Ansaldo was born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on September 5, 1927, son of Charles J. and Margaret (Cantlin) Ansaldo. They came to Milford in 1929. Richard attended Milford schools and graduated with a War Diploma in 1945.
