Technician 5th Grade Carmello Feodora Aveni / United States Army

T /5 Carmello Feodora Aveni was born in Milford on June 18, 1918, the son of Anthony and Rose (Tortorelli) Aveni, now living in Nashua. He attended Milford schools and worked in Milford in Sal’s Barber Shop prior to April 30, 1942, when he entered the Army. In September of the same year, he married Elizabeth Leonard, also of Milford. At Fort Knox, Kentucky, he took his basic training and in January, 1943, he was sent to Camp Bell, Kentucky, ready for overseas duty. He rose to technician fifth grade during that time. He left for Europe in February, 1945, and served both in France and Germany in the 220th Armored Engineer Battalion. He returned to the United States and after a furlough was sent to California ready for Pacific duty. However, orders were changed and he was discharged at Camp Cooke, California, on December 4, 1945
